History Management in Work ow Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
A workkow history manager maintains the information essential for workkow monitoring and data mining as well as for recovery and authorization purposes. Certain characteristics of workkow systems like the necessity to run these systems on heterogeneous, autonomous and distributed environments and the nature of data, prevent history management in workkows to be handled by the classical data management techniques like distributed DBMSs. In this paper, we describe history management, i.e., the structure of the history and querying of the history, in a fully distributed workkow architecture realized in conformance with Object Management Architecture (OMA) of OMG. We describe the structure of the history objects determined according to the nature of the data and the processing needs, and the possible query processing strategies on these objects using the Object Query Service of OMG. We then introduce a cost model and discuss the optimization issues in this environment.

Work ows are activities involving the coordinated execution of mul tiple tasks performed by di erent processing entities mostly in distributed het erogeneous environments which are very common in enterprises of even moderate complexity Centralized work ow systems fall short to meet the demands of such environments This paper describes the design and implementation of a distributed work ow manag...
متن کاملFunctionality and Limitations of Current Workflow Management Systems
Work ow systems hold the promise of facilitating the everyday operation of many enterprises and work environments. As a result, many commercial work ow management systems have been developed. These systems, although useful, do not scale well, have limited fault-tolerance, and are in exible in terms of interoperating with other work ow systems. In this paper, we discuss the limitations of contem...

Businesses around the world are paying more attention to process management and process automation to improve organizational e ciency and e ectiveness. In this paper, we describe a general framework for implementing dynamic routing and operational control mechanisms in Work ow Management Systems (WMSs). The framework consists of three techniques: work ow control tables, sequence constraints, an...

Work ow management systems (WFMS) support the modeling, coordinated execution and monitoring of business processes within an organization. In particular, very large work ow management systems are used in organizations with several thousand users, hundreds of thousands of process instances, and several thousand sites, all distributed over wide geographic areas. In these environments, failure of ...
